RBR Dance Majors Present Spring Dance Extravaganza April 7
On Thursday, April 7, at 7 pm, The Red Bank Regional (RBR) Visual & Performing Arts Academy (VPA) dance majors present their “Spring Dance Extravaganza” at the RBR theatre. RBR is located at 101 Ridge Road in Little Silver, NJ. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and children. All RBR students are free with student ID. Tickets can be purchased at the door. For more information, contact the RBR dance teacher Cara Scacco at Cscacco@rbrhs.org, 732 842 8000, ext. 1477.
The show will feature 21 pieces performed by 32 dancers with two guest artists, Denyse Sheehan and Brittany Cohen, both dance educators from Monmouth County. Dance teacher Cara Scacco choreographed three of the pieces while all other dances are student choreographed and feature the genres of modern, hip hop, lyrical and a special classical piece from the ballet of Don Quixote.
Two of the senior choreographers Georgie Greenwald and Catherine Perry choreographed a piece to the song “Brother” by pop artist Matt Corbie. The number was also performed at the RBR Black History Month Celebration which Catherine explains, “highlighted the theme of struggle.”
The girls, both from Little Silver, have been dancing together since the age of two and remained best friends from kindergarten. Both were destined to choose RBR’s Academy of Visual & Performing Arts as dance majors.
Georgie comments on her peers in the dance program, “The dance program has made us all good friends. We are very close.”
Catherine adds, “It is cool that we have danced at RBR because not many public high schools take 80 minutes out of the day to teach it. And, we get to know one another as dancers, choreographers and friends.”
Both girls plan to go on to college, and while they may major in different subjects, they claim dance will always be a special part of their lives.
