RBR Students Score High in Technology Student Association State Competition
Eight Red Bank Regional (RBR) students competed in this year’s Technology Student Association (TSA) state conference contests, which were held on May 5 at the College of New Jersey. Over 1400 students competed in over 60 technology-based events. RBR senior Elisa Orsini (Shrewsbury) placed second in Flight Endurance and junior Jose Ramirez (Red Bank) placed third in Transportation modeling. The other students who represented RBR were Vincent Novellino (Millstone), Erick Camerino (Red Bank), Ricky Wild (Belmar), Javier Molina (Deal), Edwin Castillo (Red Bank), and not pictured, Jorge Benavides (Red Bank).
All students are members of RBR’s TSA Club which is advised by RBR Pre-Engineering teacher Kathryn Hawley.
Ms. Hawley comments, “Every year the TSA becomes more competitive and the students need to start earlier in the school year to develop their skills in a particular event in which they feel they have the best opportunity to excel. We are all looking forward to the 2015-2016 competitions.”
The TSA is the oldest student organization dedicated exclusively to students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) courses. Its membership includes over 200,000 middle school and over 2,000 high schools in 49 states in the U.S. For more information visit their website at www.tsaweb.org.
